Transfer Credit Policy
Students who have studied at another approved university-level institution may request to transfer credits to The International University.

IU’s liberal transfer credit policy assures students the benefit of the studies they have already completed en route to their desired degrees.

Maximum Transfer Credit Allowed:

  • Toward the Master of Business Administration or Master of Arts in Diplomatic and Strategic Studies degree: 9 credit hours
  • Toward the Bachelor of Arts in Diplomatic Studies or Bachelor of Business Administration degree: 90 credit hours

To be considered for transfer credit, the student must submit an official university transcript to the Academic Dean’s Office at the time of enrollment. The Academic Dean’s Office will make a preliminary recommendation to the Transfer Credit Committee, who will make a final decision.

Upon decision, the Dean’s Office will prepare an official document for the student’s file and the indication of transfer credit will be placed on the student’s degree plan.

The Dean’s Office and/or Transfer Credit Committee may request additional information from the institution where transfer credit is desired, such as course descriptions, a catalog, or syllabi.

Transcripts from all secondary schools and institutions of higher learning are to be submitted at the time of application to IU. Credit from institutions of higher learning will be evaluated by the Transfer Credit Evaluation Committee for possible transfer to IU. Transcripts will not be accepted after the application process is completed. Transfer credit may only be confirmed on the basis of an original transcript - not a copy. Transcripts in languages other than English or German must be officially translated.

Freshman students may receive limited transfer credit toward General Education requirements for International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, or the final exams taken for the Matura. In addition to post-secondary school institutions of higher learning, a limited number of elective transfer credit hours may be received from foreign language courses taken. The language studied must be foreign to the student (no credit for studying one’s native language).

A U.S. Graduate Academic Dean wrote: “I am pleased to inform IU that our institution, a standing member of the Southern Association of Colleges, is pleased to accept IU students for graduate school. ... Our experience with IU students in the past has been positive. They have been outstanding in graduate school and in some cases have gone on to pursue doctoral programs in other universities having completed master’s degrees with us.”
