Introduction to the Admissions Process

IU welcomes students from around the world who are highly motivated, possess an excitement about learning and a willingness to work hard to meet high academic standards, and who consider themselves candidates to make a positive difference in the world through their careers.

Excellent academic achievement in secondary school, or in the Bachelor’s program, is rewarded with up to 15% academic scholarship. However, IU also accepts provisionally a limited number of students whose previous performance is only average, providing them the opportunity to prove themselves at IU during the first semester.
Students with low or mediocre English skills may also apply. They will be placed in appropriate English as a Foreign Language (EFL) courses to improve their English to a university level.

Maintaining of “good standing” status once enrolled is necessary to continue studying, and receive visa and other privileges.

Good Standing / Academic Probation
To remain in good standing academically, the student must maintain the grade point average (GPA) stated below in relation to the number of semester hours completed.

Each student who fails to maintain good standing is placed on academic probation. After one semester on academic probation, should the student fail to achieve good standing, he/she is subject to dismissal for one semester. Transfer students are given two semesters during which to achieve good standing or be subject to probation. A second dismissal for failure to achieve good standing is a permanent dismissal from the University. NOTE: This probation/dismissal is noted on the student's permanent record.

A student may be placed on academic probation for the following reasons:

Academic performance (see above)
Attendance: poor attendance records may result in the student being placed on probation status. If attendance does not improve during the semester of probation, the student will be subject to dismissal from the University. A semester with a good attendance record may remove this probationary status.
Cheating or plagiarism: A student who demonstrates his/her unwillingness to abide by IU's policies regarding cheating and plagiarism will be placed on academic probation and/or face dismissal.
